Enterprise Insight clusters together object types, attribute types, relationship types and diagram types into metamodels which are then assigned to models. This defines what can be created within each model.
Diagram types are classified as either viewpoints or diagrams
-
- Viewpoints: used to align an automatically generated visualization with specific content
- Diagrams: manually editable diagrams, compatible with draw.io
Creating Viewpoints
- Go to the Diagram Types tab
- Click on the Create Viewpoint button
- Give the viewpoint a name
- Used the drop down menu to define the below multi-select fields
- Object Types
- Relationship types
- Select the viewpoint type, this will be either a) Box or b) Hierarchy. A hierarchy is a nested hierarchy of objects, whereas a box diagram shows both hierarchies (See Group By option) and boxes with visual representation of the relationships
- Optionally select any attributes you would like to be displayed against the relationships
- Select any group by options, group by will create hierarchies for specific groups within a box diagram
- Select an orientation, for example right to left
- Optionally Select the number of levels from the root object you would like to use
- Please save when you have configured the diagram type, it will not be saved automatically
Creating Diagrams
- Go to the Diagram Types tab
- Click on the Create Diagram Type button
- Give the diagram type a name
- To import objects you must import a library, libraries can be defined using draw.io. Save the library as a file to your local machine then import them using the import button
Libraries contain shapes, these shapes can be aligned to object types. This allows us to export visualizations to the diagram editor, since the tool will understand which object types represent which shape types in your diagram.
- Use the shape types and object types columns to select mappings one by one and save it by click on the right facing arrow. It will then appear in the combinations section. Each mapping is 1:1
- Object types and relationship types are mapped to shapes using different tabs, see the relationship types tab for the relationship type mapping
- Please save when you have configured the diagram type, it will not be saved automatically
